I am originally from the Fiji Islands and came to USA ten years ago. I am a secretary by profession.Desi Boutique is my part-time job. My two daughters, Nikisha, Nilisha and I always had interest in traditional Indian costumes and accessories. I always had a dream to have my own Indian outfit store sometime in my life and am aiming to have a store in the Bay Area after my retirement.
How did Desi Boutique Happen?
To fulfill my dream of having an Indian outfit store, I started
researching and establishing contacts with manufacturers in India.
That is when I realized that the Indian stores had very high markups
and therefore their prices were extremely expensive. Being an online
Indian costume shopper for over 8 years, I decided to start an online
store and serve the USA community with the latest Indian fashion at cheaper prices than the Indian stores. Desi Boutique was founded in December 2010.
Do you design your own clothes?
No, I order them from Indian manufacturers in India.
Who or what motivates you?
What gets, and keeps me going: the thought of being independent, the freedom to run my business activities as I wish; the opportunity to “be my own boss”. Although there is no question that money, or what it buys (rent, food, etc.) is a prime motivator, money alone does not create the sense of fulfillment and accomplishment that I am seeking. My husband, Narash, daughters Nikisha and Nilisha and my son-in law Yash are my motivators…I wouldn’t even have started this business without their help and I believe that with their help, Desi Boutique will become the number one Indian boutique in the Bay Area.

Do you believe in Fusion Fashion or do you stick to the "Traditional"designs for your boutique?
I like fusion fashion but for now I would rather stick to the "traditional" designs.

One special Fashion Tip for our readers
If you are plump, wear dark colors rather than going in for lighter shades. On the other hand, if you wish to wear lighter shades then prefer dull colors; for instance, instead of sky blue go for dull blue or dirty blue. Also, small prints and vertical line prints give a slimmer look. Drape yourself in Chiffon and Georgette sarees instead of cotton and Kota sarees and avoid sleeveless cuts. If you have a medium structure, choose beige and fawn color georgette or satin saree. In case of blouses, prefer nets, as they are a great help in disguising physical flaws.If you are thin, the entire range of beautiful shades will suit you.
